New Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus Android 5.1.1 Update Brings Security Improvements for Verizon Users

If you happened to buy a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus from Verizon, you should keep an eye on the notifications panel as there might be a software update waiting for you. However, don’t get your hopes to high as this isn’t the much awaited Marshmallow update, but rather a security update according to Big Red’s support page.

The new software update for Verizon’s Galaxy S6 Edge Plus is just anther build of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. It appears that the new firmware aims to improve security and to prepare the terminal for Samsung Pay.

I remind you that S6 Edge Plus came pre-loaded with Android 5.1.1, so its users were already able to taste the Lollipop-specific goodies. Just to name a few: lock screen notifications, Screen Pinning, Smart Lock, Android Runtime (ART), native support for 64-bit processors, multi-user support for phones with Guest Mode, Material Design interface, search functionality within the settings app, improved battery stats, battery saver mode support, and many more.

As the norm is with software updates, the new Android 5.1.1 update for Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus is being rolled out in phases, meaning it could take a while until it spreads to all customers. I remind you that when Verizon’s servers push the update to your terminal a message should appear in the notifications panel letting you know that a system update is pending. Tap on it and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. In case the system update notification failed to appear, you would also want to check for the update manually under Settings > About phone > System updates > Check now for system updates. You should also know that the update is also rolling out via KIES, so grab the USB cable, connect your phone to the PC, and launch the software tool.

Even though the update isn’t that big, it’s recommended to download the update file using a Wi-Fi connection. Also make sure that you have at least 50% battery, so your phone won’t shut down during the installation.
